CROWNS
A crown is a fixed prosthetic restoration for a single tooth exhibiting a lot of decay. To avoid further spread of infection to the roots, a root canal may be required prior to restoring the tooth with a crown. A crown gives patients the option of preserving a natural tooth for as long as possible, instead of having to extract it. There are many different types of crowns, such as porcelain, gold, porcelain fused to metal, metal-ceramic, or all-ceramic crowns. Your dentist may recommend a certain material, but it is ultimately your choice.
This procedure differs from case to case. For all crowns, an impression is taken, the tooth is prepared by excavating all the decay, and a temporary crown is made and cemented onto the prepared tooth structure. This is to be used until the final crown’s fabrication is complete. At the next appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and the final crown is cemented.
INLAYS & ONLAYS
Inlays and onlays are fixed prosthetics. They are made of the same material as crowns but do not cover the entire tooth. They are typically used when too much of the tooth’s structure is decayed to be restored with a conventional composite filling, but not so decayed that an entire crown is needed. Inlays are placed in instances where the cusps of a tooth are in good shape, but the tooth structure in between them is decayed. Onlays differ from inlays only in that they are used in instances where some of the cusps are also decayed, as well as the tooth structure between them. Onlays restore and preserve a greater portion of the tooth; the inside, and some of the cusps.

BRIDGES
If you have missing teeth and are looking for an alternative option to implants, bridges may be the choice for you! Bridges are fixed prosthetics that insert into the space where a tooth has been lost. Crowns are cemented on adjacent teeth and a pontic replaces the missing tooth. Pontics sit overtop of the gum and are fused to the adjacent teeth to create the appearance of a regular smile with no gaps.
DENTURES
Dentures are removable prosthetic appliances. They work to replace teeth in areas where teeth are missing and are an alternative to implants. Dentures can restore the cosmetic appearance of your smile, restore your ability to chew comfortably, and sometimes correct speech impediments. Complete dentures can be fabricated to replace all teeth in top or bottom arches, or partial dentures can be fabricated to replace only a few teeth between other existing teeth in an arch.
The procedure begins with taking preliminary impressions, followed by border molding. Border molding involves the taking of impressions of all surrounding areas of the mouth to the teeth and gums for the creation of a denture that is retentive and custom-fit to your mouth to ensure comfort and a long-lasting appliance. A final impression is then taken and poured up into a stone model called the ‘master cast’, which serves as an exact replica of your mouth that the denture is then fabricated on. In the final stages, we take a bite registration to establish the relationship between the upper and lower arches of the mouth, so that when you bite down, it just feels natural. The denture is then processed and the final appliance is delivered. Our team will also inform you on how to wear and care for your dentures.
