New patients, insurance and CDCP
Your first appointment
We recommend booking a New Patient Exam. It runs about an hour and a half: a hygienist cleans and polishes your teeth, x rays are taken if needed, and the dentist finishes with a thorough examination and talks you through what they found and what they recommend next.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill in paperwork. Bring:
- any dental x rays taken in the past six months, as electronic copies emailed to the clinic
- your insurance information
- a list of any medications you take
- IFHP papers, if you are a refugee covered by the Interim Federal Health Program
Paying for care
- CDCP accepted. We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan.
- Private insurance. We accept all private insurance plans, and we are happy to bill your insurance provider directly on your behalf.
- Estimates. Patients are ultimately responsible for understanding their coverage before beginning treatment, but we can assist by submitting estimates and direct billing when available.
- Payment plans. KWC Dental is paired with Dentalcard, which gives you a payment plan option for any of our treatments.
Student dental plans in Waterloo
If you are a student and have not opted out of your school’s dental insurance plan, you are most likely eligible for coverage. Our Financing Options page lists what each plan includes:
- University of Waterloo: recall exams, cleanings, root planing and extraction of impacted teeth, plus fillings, oral surgery, root canal treatment and gum treatment.
- Wilfrid Laurier University: examinations, x rays, cleaning and one recall exam a year, plus fillings, extractions and anaesthesia, root canal treatment and scaling.
- Conestoga College: recall exams, cleanings, root planing and scaling, fillings and extractions, root canal and gum treatment, and crowns, bridges and dentures.
Check your own plan for the details that apply to you.
